How to set up a New Asset or Asset Class in an existing ITpipes Environment

Introduction
These instructions are provided to help a client add a new asset type or asset class into an ITpipes existing environment, such as the Laterals or Manhole asset type or the Sewer or Storm asset class. The article reviews steps that need done to for the new type or class to function throughout the entire workflow. The workflow varies for each client but can start with field inspection using ITpipes Mobile, include data management using ITpipes Sync, and include reporting and review with ITpipes Web.
Prerequisites
  • A new activation code for applications in use:
    • If using ITpipes Mobile for inspections, a new activation code will be emailed to the Licensing Contact.
    • If using ITpipes Web internally hosted, a new activation code will be emailed to the Licensing Contact.
    • If using ITpipes Web with ITpipes Cloud hosting, ITpipes will automatically apply the new activation code.
  • Determine if the new asset type is best included in an existing project or new project. The points to consider will vary based on the asset type, existing templates in use and compliance standards in use.
    • We highly recommend discussing this with ITpipes staff, to schedule an appointment use this link.
  • A template needs defined for the new asset type. To learn more about templates, these templates may help:

    • Template Editor Best Practices KBA
    • To request a template be created, please create a support ticket and include details of the template to be used.
Instructions
  1. Apply license:
    1. If using ITpipes Mobile, use this KBA.
    2. If using ITpipes Web, use this KBA.
  2. Add in the template:
    1. For ITpipes Mobile, the template file should be placed on the pc using ITpipes into the C:\Program Files (x86)\Infrastructure Technologies\ITpipes Mobile\Templates folder.
    2. For ITpipes Web locally hosted, the template file should be placed on the server at driveletter:\inetpub\ITpipesWeb\Content\Templates
    3. For ITpipes Web Cloud, ITpipes will apply the template. Please submit a ticket defining the template to be used and ask Tech Support to apply the template to the related ITpipes Web/Cloud instance.
  3. If necessary, create new project for the asset type:
    1. If using ITpipes Mobile, the User's manual has instructions, see the section titled Project View>Project Creation.
      1. If a map is available for the new asset type, this should be set up. The User's Manual has instructions, see the section titled Project View>Project Creation.
    2. If using ITpipes Web locally hosted, the User's manual has instructions, see the section titled Project Admin>Create a Project.
    3. If using ITpipes Cloud, ITpipes will create the project for the user. Please submit a ticket defining the name of the project you would like setup and ask Tech Support to create the project.
  4. If new hardware is in use that is related to the new asset module, there will be additional tasks related to ITpipes Mobile. This could include for example a lateral launch camera, push camera, and/or manhole camera.
    1. ITpipes Mobile settings will need adjusted, the ITpipes Mobile User's manual has instructions, see the section titled Settings>Use Lateral Counters.
  5. Sync will need set up for that new asset type. This KBA has instructions.
    1. If a new project was created, Sync will need setup for that project.
    2. if an existing project is modified, Sync settings will need adjusted to add the new asset type.
  6. We recommend performing a full test of the workflow to confirm inspections can be performed, properly sync, and are available in the office for review and reporting.
Conclusion
ITpipes should be fully functional with the new asset type.
