Using the GIS Receive Tool
This guide explains how clients and staff can use the GIS Receive Tool within CoreVision to synchronize GIS asset data with inspection results collected in FieldVision.
What is GIS Receive?
The GIS Receive Tool ensures that GIS systems reflect the most current field conditions by synchronizing asset data between ArcGIS Feature Services and the CoreVision database.
Core Functionality
-
Data Comparison and Sync
- Compares asset attributes between the GIS Feature Service and CoreVision.
- Identifies mismatches and displays them in a grid for review.
- Users can:
- Push updated values from ITpipes into GIS.
- Pull values from GIS into CoreVision.
-
User Interface Features
- Mismatched fields are displayed in a dialog box, grouped by layer and asset.
- Filter options include:
- Fields that match or do not match.
- Fields that are valid for update.
- Status messages show how many assets are already up to date or missing in GIS.
-
Update Process
- Users select which fields to update.
- Updates can be exported to Excel for review prior to applying.
- Once confirmed, selected fields are written back to the GIS system.
Client Requirements
- A GIS Feature Service with Sync enabled.
- Matching Asset IDs in GIS and ITpipes (ex: Pipe ID).
- ArcGIS Online credentials with the Feature Service authenticated through OAuth.
Authentication Note
GIS Receive requires OAuth (User Authentication) for secured ArcGIS Feature Services.
Standard server/basic authentication may work for other ITpipes features, but it is not supported by GIS Receive.
To ensure proper functionality:
- Register an OAuth application in ArcGIS Online.
- Add the Redirect URI:
https://default.itpipes.com/signin-oidc - Confirm your CoreVision site is accessible via HTTPS.
Without OAuth, the GIS Receive Tool will not be able to prompt for credentials or obtain the required user token for accessing secured Feature Services.
Limitations
- Inspection data is not pushed back automatically—only asset-level data is supported.
- The tool may not function correctly if the GIS map is misconfigured or if credentials are missing.
Summary
GIS Receive is a powerful tool for ITpipes clients who want to:
- Keep GIS data synchronized with field inspections.
- Reduce manual data entry and potential errors.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date asset records across systems.
The tool supports bidirectional updates, filtering, and bulk editing, but requires proper GIS configuration, OAuth authentication, and matching asset IDs to function correctly.
