ITpipes Web Installation Instructions

ITpipes Web Installation Instructions

Note: These instructions are for installing ITpipes Web on a new machine. For more information on how to update, proceed here.

Installation Prerequisites/Requirements

  1. A web server running a 64-bit edition of Windows Server 2012 or newer with IIS Features and management tools installed from the images below.

  2. SQL Server version 2012 or newer.

    1. Note: ITpipes does not set up a client's local SQL Server as a policy. If cloud-hosted, then the server/database is set up and maintained by ITpipes.

  3. Media storage server with a shared directory to store files. This can be the same server as above.

  4. SQL Server Management Studio and a SQL Server account with dbcreator permission. [Note: Only needed during DB Creation, This user can just be the owner of the ITPipes database after installation is complete]

  5. If using a domain:

    1. Windows domain account (AD - Active Directory account). ITpipes recommends disabling the Password Expiration.

    2. ITPipes uses this account to access the ITPipes Web Application location and the virtual directory media location

  6. Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Microsoft Edge, or Opera.

  7. A copy of all templates (.tpl) used in ITpipes Web, Desktop, and Mobile. [Note: Please Contact ITPipes if missing these files as we should have the latest ones on file]

  8. As of 6/21/2022 any new installation of ITpipes Web no longer needs this requirement.

    1. Java Runtime Environment 1.8 + for the license server. Must be matched to OS bit type (installed with the installer).

  9. Please verify that the port 7070 is accepted from IP Address to be allowed to go to the server that ITpipes Web is located on; this is a requirement for Flexera licensing as of 05/2022.

  10. Access Database Engine 2016 (installed with the installer).

FYI: ITpipes does not need a dedicated server and often is installed on a server shared with ESRI GIS and/or an asset management application.

Other Notes:
- This setup will support 'Always On High Availability' for the SQL server
- the dbcreator that ITPipes will use to access the database should not create or need any additional users, linked databases, jobs etc
- New users in the web platform are managed by ITPipes in the ITPipesUser database
- The ITPipesUser database can be placed on any existing SQL server that is 2012 or newer
- DB Growth Settings:
ITpipes uses a minimalist attitude when it comes to the database. The database only contains the data itself and references to media files, so tends to stay fairly small. Small enough that we haven’t found a need to track DB growth settings.

Make sure all required features and roles are installed. The installation will fail unless everything is installed.
